History of Roulette

In the 1800s, roulette spread across Europe and the U.S.A. like a wildfire, becoming one of the most famous and popular casino games in the world. When the German government abolished gambling in the 1860s, the Blanc family (pioneers in roulette) then moved to the last legal remaining casino operation in Europe, which was in Monte Carlo. There they established a gambling Mecca for the elite higher echelons of European society. It was here that the single zero roulette wheel became the leading game, and over the years roulette has been exported all around the world, except of course in the United States where the double zero wheel had remained dominant.

Legend tells it that the late François Blanc supposedly bargained with the devil to obtain the secrets of roulette table. The legend is based on a slither of fact which is that the sum of all the numbers on the roulette wheel (from 1 to 36) adds up to 666, which is the number, associated with the devil.

The origins of roulette seem to have been lost to time, but some legends trace it back to Tibetan monks while others, to a famous French mathematician in search of perpetual motion. At the very least, the roulette game you see today can be traced back to 18th-century France. It’s thought by many that it was the French immigrants who would later go on introduce it to the rest of the world but proof has never been found

Roulette is hugely popular among gamblers worldwide because it's both thrilling and simple. On the flipside, casinos love it because the odds are heavily stacked in favour of the house, and also because it is void of any potential betting system being able to beat it. So all in all its easy to see why the game s so popular through out the world as both the player and house benefit from different ways I which roulette can be played.
